It’s not a magic trick, but it looks a little like one: Money Walkie allows you to make the pocket money you give to your children disappear. Believe it or not, they will thank you!

Until December 24, Clubic opens a sound box every day Advent calendar 2023 : the opportunity to discover unusual or practical gadgets, gift ideas for yourself and your loved ones.

Many children know — and sometimes look forward to — the ritual of pocket money. Whether it is distributed weekly or monthly, it allows them to treat themselves a little and meet their non-essential needs.

For this, parents must have with them on the fateful date the coins or notes to be distributed, otherwise they will have to deal with a child who will make a big noise will be very disappointed…

Fortunately, Money Walkie offers an elegant solution to a possible cash shortage. Better yet, it teaches young people how to manage a budget and know the value of money. It’s certainly not very glamorous, but unfortunately very useful in our consumer society.

Solid domino

Money Walkie is a small dongle the size of a domino. It is covered with a silicone shell in various shapes (unicorn, panda, bear, surfboard, etc.) to suit the child’s tastes.

Of foolproof solidity (or almost), it is not afraid of shocks or water and does not require any source of energy. It contains an NFC MasterCard chip allowing contactless payment, exactly as you would with a smartphone or connected watch.

Money Walkie is obviously not an open bar on the parents’ bank account. They must credit it using an app to install on the phone. Up to four Walkies can be managed, which will delight large families.

Budget education

The app has “child access” allowing Walkie owners to track their consumption and manage their first budget. He does it from the parents’ smartphone, or from his own if he has one.

We appreciate the features offered such as tracking expenses or setting up a safe (a sort of piggy bank where he decides to put part of his pocket money). Good point also for Money Storiessmall interactive sequences which introduce the child to budget management.

Security is particularly careful: it is possible to instantly block a lost Walkie, then unblock it when it is found. If it doesn’t resurface, simply link a new Walkie to the child’s account so they can regain access to their savings. On the other hand, expenses can be capped and the Walkie has a maximum lifespan of three years.

Three formulas

Money Walkie aims to educate children about financial matters. In addition to managing expenses and creating a safe, it gives the child the opportunity to earn a little money by completing missions entrusted by the parents. Finally, he can also learn philanthropy by donating a little money to the charities of his choice.

Three options are offered to parents. The one-off plan allows you to recharge a Walkie for an amount ranging from €2 to €50, with a €1 fee for each recharge.

The classic plan requires a monthly subscription (€1.90 for a Walkie and €3.50 for 2, 3 or 4 Walkies). The top-up amount can reach €150 (no top-up fees) and the previously mentioned missions are available.

Finally, the premium plan adds online payment as well as loss/theft insurance for the Walkie to the classic one. You then have to pay €2.90 per month for a Walkie and €5.50 for 2, 3 or 4 Walkies.

Our testers appreciated Walkie, even if the youngest (aged eight) was a little confused by the dematerialization of the ticket which was previously distributed to her. She quickly consoled herself, her Walkie taking the form of a unicorn which never leaves her side…
