One thing is certain: the SRT-420 is not a bulky object. This parallelepiped made of black plastic measures only 112 x 112 x 23 mm, which does not prevent it from having very comfortable connectivity. There are two USB ports, a micro SD card slot, an HDMI socket and an RJ45 network socket.
They are complemented by an optical S/PDIF audio output, an input for a terrestrial antenna as well as the essential Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The terrestrial part allows connection to a TNT antenna, so you can watch your favorite shows even during an Internet outage (this happens, especially on evenings when you’re waiting for a crucial football match).
Easy to get started
The SRT-420 is very easy to configure. Simply connect it to the TV and the electrical network with the accessories provided, then let yourself be guided. Don’t remember your Google credentials or Wi-Fi password? Do not panic !
Simply start the Google app on your smartphone and then ask the voice assistant to detect the new device. All the information necessary for configuration is then transmitted and any updates downloaded immediately. About twelve minutes passed between unpacking and the end of the installation!
The SRT-420 is equipped with Android TV and has the Google Plays Store. It contains its usual applications which can be controlled from the remote control. It also has the Google Assistant, which makes it even more user-friendly.
High-end technical specifications
On the technical side, the device ticks all the boxes for a high-end product: 4K Ultra HD video resolution, HDR compatibility, support for H.265/HEVC codecs and support for Dolby Digital Plus.
If you connect a terrestrial antenna to it, you can also receive HD TNT and radio (DVB-T2). Adding a micro SD card or USB storage provides access to live control of terrestrial channels.
Finally, Bluetooth compatibility makes it theoretically possible to connect a game controller, transforming the SRT-420 into a games console. Unfortunately, we did not have the opportunity to test this.
After a few weeks of testing, we must admit that we were pleasantly surprised by the SRT-420. The device is simple to use, but also very versatile. We were able to install our favorite applications (Spotifiy, MyCanal, Netflix, etc.) and we never encountered any technical problems. Go say the same with the TV decoder from an Internet provider…
Much more than a simple TV decoder, the SRT-420 is a true multimedia center. We will happily use it to view streaming films, photos or even personal videos via a network connection or by connecting USB storage. It can be found in stores for barely 70 euros: why deprive yourself of it?
