0: 5 defeat in the EL – New coach, old suffering: FCZ also goes under in Eindhoven – Sport

  • FC Zurich also lost in the first game under new coach Bo Henriksen.
  • The Swiss champions lost 5-0 to PSV Einhoven and thus missed out on progressing in the Europa League.
  • In the parallel game, Arsenal wins 1-0 at Bodö/Glimt.

20 minutes had only been played in Eindhoven when Bo Henriksen seemed to wonder for the first time where he got himself into. In his first serious fight, the new FCZ trainer actually only made a few adjustments – no wonder, since it had only been 78 hours since his introduction.

And yet the 47-year-old Dane had to believe he was in the wrong movie. The FCZ actually started the game with commitment and once again fell behind early on.

  • In the 9th minute, FCZ goalie Yanick Brecher was only able to fend off a header from Armando Obispo in front of Erick Gutierrez’s feet after a corner. The Mexican pokes the ball over the line.
  • 6 minutes later, the Zurich defense looks on as PSV passes the ball back and forth in the penalty area. Joey Veerman takes heart from a distance and increases to 2:0.

So the chances of the guests to take something countable from Eindhoven dropped to a minimum early on. Although the FCZ was more committed compared to the last appearances. And as far as possession of the ball is concerned, they seemed to keep up. But it wasn’t enough for more than good individual actions such as a side kick by Bohdan Wjunnik (21st).

It’s already over in the EL

PSV did better on the other side. Before the break, Ibrahim Sangaré increased after another corner kick. After the break, Veerman crowned himself a double goal scorer (55′), and in the closing stages, substitute Anwar El Ghazi made it 5-0 – Brecher couldn’t get his hands together quickly enough. In the end, the result was even clearer than a week ago when they lost 1:5 at home against the same opponent.

After the 4th defeat in the 4th Europa League appearance, it is already clear that FCZ will not spend the winter in the EL. If the Henriksen team still gets a few points in the final duels with Bodö/Glimt and Arsenal, they could continue thanks to third place in the Conference League. However, it is also clear for the Dane that he will have a lot of work to do in the next few days and weeks. It doesn’t get much easier though: the next opponent is called Letzigrund YB on Sunday.

Arsenal continue to win

Arsenal once again lived up to their role as favorites in Group A’s second game. Thanks to the 1-0 win in Norway, the “Gunners” (from 59th with Granit Xhaka) celebrated their 3rd win in the 3rd game and are at the top of the table. The follow-up game against Eindhoven will take place in London next Thursday.
