0:2 at the start of the EL – Harmless Servette goes bad against Slavia Prague – Sport

This is probably not how Servette imagined his premiere in the Europa League. The Geneva team, who had a legitimate chance of scoring points in the duel with Slavia Prague, remained extremely harmless against efficient guests over 90 minutes and left the pitch as deserved losers.

The misfortune began for Servette after half an hour. The guests from Prague – who had had more of the game so far, but were not really a goal threat – dared to attack on the right side. Petr Sevcik’s cross was cleared by Servette defender Bendeguz Bolla directly into the feet of Lukas Masopust, who was ready to take the shot. The Czech international, who had previously set up Sevcik with his heel, heaved the ball into the net to make it 1-0. In the pouring rain, the home team was unable to react before half-time.

Coach René Weiler’s team, which had already demonstrated comeback qualities in European business this season, actually came out of the dressing room with a lot of energy. However, the previously invisible Chris Bedia remained without fortune in his two final attempts (53rd/56th).

Two shots on goal – two goals conceded

Only shortly afterwards the Geneva printing phase was abruptly stopped. After a corner and a header extension, Slavia’s Igoh Ogbu managed to head the ball alone. Servette goalkeeper Jérémy Frick could only look after the ball at 0:2. Slavia were successful for the second time with their second shot on goal.

Weiler responded to the renewed blow to the neck with a triple substitution, but the turnaround failed to materialize. The efficient guests from the Czech capital let Servette dictate the game, but kept tight at the back. Servette, which has been waiting for a sense of success in the Super League since its opening victory at the end of July, is also missing out on a breakthrough on the European stage.

AS Roma fulfills their duty in Tiraspol

In the second game of Group G, AS Roma started its Europa League campaign with an expected victory. Servette’s upcoming opponent celebrated a narrow 2-1 win away against Sheriff Tiraspol. An own goal from Sheriff’s Gaby Kiki in stoppage time in the first half put the Romans in the lead. Roma responded to Tiraspol’s equalizer (57th) with new signing Romelu Lukaku (65th), who scored after a nice individual performance to make the final score 2-1.
