Servette celebrated the second 1-0 win in the second home game of the season. Against promoted Winterthur, however, the Geneva team had to rely on a generous penalty whistle from referee Stefan Horisberger to score the three points.

The scene in question took place in the 80th minute when Boubacar Fofana was easily held back by Granit Lekaj on the right side of the box. Because it was not a clear wrong decision, the VAR left it at the controversial decision. Patrick Plücke confidently converted the penalty due to make it 1-0.

Unlucky Fayulu debut

Winterthur coach Bruno Berner put his trust in Timothy Fayulu for the first time when his team made their fourth appearance between the posts. The goalkeeper on loan from Sion replaced Josef Pukaj, who has not impressed in previous games.

Fayulu had almost no opportunities to excel in the sparsely occupied Stade de Genève over 90 minutes. The 23-year-old only had to intervene before the break during a long-distance attempt by Plücke (23′). Even after the change of sides, he had little to do apart from the penalty.

However, because Winterthur’s offensive was on the back burner, the promoted team is still not up to speed after the promising start against Basel (1-1). The defeat in Geneva was the third bankruptcy in a row.

Here’s how to proceed

Next Sunday, at 8.30 p.m., Winterthur will host the champions FCZ for the derby (2.15 p.m.) on the Schützenwiese. On the same day, Servette is required to play away at the Bernese Young Boys (4:30 p.m.).
