  • FCZ beat Lucerne 1-0 away thanks to a late goal from Antonio Marchesano.
  • The interim coaching duo Murat Ural and Umberto Romano are celebrating a successful debut.
  • YB narrowly beat bottom team Stade-Lausanne-Ouchy, Servette defeated Lugano late.

It was already the 90th minute in the Lucerne Arena when Antonio Marchesano got the ball unmolested in the penalty area at the right post and scored a late decision in Zurich’s favor. The FCZ veteran gave the two interim coaches Murat Ural and Umberto Romano a successful debut on the sidelines. Former coach Bo Henriksen, whose contract expired in the summer was not extended, said goodbye to Mainz in the Bundesliga last week.

Yakin witnessed the FCZ victory

With this goal under the watchful eye of Nati coach Murat Yakin, the Zurich team rewarded themselves for a committed performance in a very even game. Top chances were scarce, especially in the second half. Before the break, the visitors from Zurich had the best opportunity to take the lead when Ifeanyi Mathew’s deflected long-range shot hit the crossbar.

Thanks to this threesome, the FCZ overtook FC St. Gallen in the table and greeted them from third place. In return, Lucerne missed out on gaining some breathing room with a win and with a view to reaching the “Championship Group”.

This is how it continues

There will also be a Zurich opponent for Lucerne next weekend: the Central Swiss will be a guest at GC on Saturday evening (8:30 p.m. live on SRF two). Zurich travels to Lugano on Sunday.
