1.6 billion dollars: 7 years later, one of the best action sagas will indeed be back with a 6th film!

Will this cinema super-spy, who completely dusted off the genre in the early 2000s, make his comeback on the big screen?

After the success of Jason Bourne’s latest opus and its $415 million worldwide gross, fans were wondering if the super-spy would return for a new mission. Good news finally reaches us from Deadline. According to the American media, Universal Pictures has launched production of a 6th part of the saga!

After Doug Liman, Tony Gilroy and Paul Greengrass, it is the German director Edward Berger who should take over the controls of a new episode of Jason Bourne. The director was revealed with Nothing New in the West, Oscar for Best Foreign Film in 2023.

According to sources cited by Deadline, the film would not yet have an established storyline and would only be in the early stages of development. Matt Damon, who plays Jason Bourne in 4 of the 5 films in the franchise, has already been approached to reprise his role.

During the promotion of the last opus of the saga in 2016, the 53-year-old actor assured that it was not necessarily a goodbye to the character and that he would not be against a return in the future. At the microphone of Digital Spy, the artist even confided that if a good story was found bringing together Jason Bourne and Aaron Cross (Jeremy Renner in Jason Bourne: Legacy), he would be up for a crossover.

However, in 2017, the actor told the Toronto Sun: “The last movie didn’t do as well as the ones we made 10 years ago, so maybe the audience is done with the character.” However, Matt Damon had darkened the picture a little, the last part having had almost the same success worldwide as Vengeance in the Skin (415 million against 444). In total, the license grossed $1.6 billion worldwide.

Adapted from Robert Ludlum’s trilogy of spy novels, Jason Bourne should therefore return to the big screen very soon, to the delight of action fans!
