1.8 out of 5! It’s the lowest rated Marvel saga but a 3rd film is in the works

The 3rd opus of this Marvel franchise should be released in theaters (if all goes well) on July 10, 2024. In the meantime, here is everything we know about the return of an iconic Marvel supervillain.

Released in 2018, the first opus of Venom was a hit, collecting $856 million in global revenue for a budget of $100 million. Carried by a freewheeling Tom Hardy in the role of Spider-Man’s super-enemy, the film was entitled to a sequel in 2021: Let There Be Carnage.

This second episode brought in 506 million greenbacks internationally for a budget of 110 million. If it performed less well than the previous opus (the Covid pandemic partly explaining this lower figure than the first), the combination of the two works raises the figure to 1.36 billion in revenue.

This jackpot convinced Sony Pictures and Marvel to start work on a third feature film to complete the trilogy centered on this legendary supervillain.

VENOM 3, WHEN IS IT COMING OUT?

For the moment, Venom 3 is maintaining its release date of July 10, 2024 despite the writers’ and actors’ strike which is paralyzing Hollywood at the moment. Filming of the film began in Spain at the end of June 2023. Production had to put everything on pause on the evening of July 13. Work will resume as soon as the strike ends but no date has been set at this time.

VENOM 3, WHO IS IT WITH?

Obviously, Tom Hardy is back in the role of Venom aka Eddie Brock. Juno Temple and Chiwetel Ejiofor are also announced in the cast.

VENOM 3, WHAT WILL IT TELL?

For the moment, we have absolutely no information regarding the plot of this 3rd part, except that it will surely be the last for Tom Hardy. On June 16, the actor suggested that this sequel could well be his last appearance in the skin of the Marvel anti-hero. The actor also took to Instagram to share the first page of the script.

Although he did not specifically indicate that this was the third installment’s storyline, a small drawing on the document: a black face with large diagonal eyes, a jagged mouth, and a long red tongue that ends by the number 3.

We also see the mentions ‘Story by Kelly Marcel and Tom Hardy’ and ‘Written by Kelly Marcel’, which clearly spilled the beans. Later, he shared the same photo, this time in a story, mentioning Sony Pictures alongside the words ‘Here we go’ and a GIF that said ‘LAST DANCE’.

WHO IS DIRECTING VENOM 3?

After Ruben Fleischer and Andy Serkis, it’s Kelly Marcel’s turn to take over for the 3rd episode. She co-wrote the first two opuses and also wrote the script for Venom 3 with Tom Hardy.

WILL SPIDER-MAN BE PRESENT?

This is the big unknown around this 3rd opus of Venom. Will Spider-Man come say hello to his best enemy? Everything is possible ! Knowing that this episode could be the last of the series, it is not excluded that the Weaver will come and put his grain of sand in Eddie Brock’s life. We particularly remember Venom’s notable passage into Spidey’s universe at the end of No Way Home.
