A new survey highlights the general poor image that the French have of social networks. Even if some are more frowned upon than others.

Nowadays, social networks have, like the media, completely integrated our daily lives. Instagram, TikTok, X or Snapchat are all essential applications for millions of French people. But the widespread use of these tools has been accompanied by numerous controversies for their impact on mental health, misinformation, or even simply for their addictive side. Which the French seem to realize.

The French are more critical on social networks

The figures revealed to us today by Destin Commun speak for themselves: the French are not big fans of social networks. According to a survey carried out by the think tank among different populations, 50% of French people would have wanted “ live in a world where social networks would never have been invented. »

This is much more than the other nationalities surveyed, since this figure drops to 42% in the United Kingdom, 37% in Germany and even 34% in the United States. The French are therefore particularly concerned about the danger represented by social networks for the safety and integrity of children. 80% of them believe “ that social networks are a dangerous place for our children. »

X and Tiktok, the most singled out

The poor image of social networks is also linked to the age of the people interviewed. As one might expect, the younger people are, the better they have on average a good image of these platforms. Likewise, 51% of those who never post there consider that they are “ a bad thing overall », while this figure drops suddenly to 23% for those who post there on a daily basis.

Finally, this poor image of social networks hides very strong disparities depending on the platform being discussed. Interfaces like YouTube (7%), WhatsApp (8%) or LinkedIn (11%) have a limited bad image. Twitch (18%), Instagram (22%), Facebook (23%) and Snapchat (28%) are already more poorly seen, but it is X (33%) and especially TikTok (49%) which take the top prize. negative image.
