1. Jumping in Bischofshofen – Swiss disappoint in Kobayashi Hattrick – Sport

  • Killian Peier jumps 26th as the best Swiss at the Four Hills Tournament in Bischofshofen.
  • Gregor Deschwanden is in 29th place. Simon Ammann missed the decision in the first of two competitions in 43rd place.
  • Tour leader Ryoyu Kobayashi also secured victory in the 3rd class. The Japanese could make the “Grand Slam” for the second time after 2019.

In time for the decision, the heavy snowfall had stopped at the first jump in Bischofshofen. But neither Killian Peier nor Gregor Deschwanden were able to use the good conditions to catch up.

Damper for Swiss duo

Even the mediocre qualification had suggested that the Swiss would be after strong tour start in Oberstdorf would miss another exploit. Peier was only able to make up two places with his flight of 133 meters in the final round on the Paul Ausserleitner ski jump. Deschwanden (127.5 m) even had to make do with 29th place.

It was a disappointment for Simon Ammann. After a modest qualification (45th), the veteran did not get up to speed in the competition either and failed in a knockout duel against Markus Eisenbichler. In the finals, the German managed the longest flight of the evening with a jump of 140.5 m.

Lindvig is playing poker

The two top contenders for the tour won the day’s victory – in reverse order: After the first jump, Marius Lindvik, the challenger, was ahead of tour leader Ryoyu Kobayashi. The Norwegian showed nerves on his second jump and had to let the Japanese pass him.

In the decision, challenger Kobayashi jumped 137.5 meters exactly two meters further than his competitor. With this he is expanding his lead in the tour standings and with a cushion of 17.9 points in the 2nd competition in Bischofshofen after his 4th victory and second “Grand Slam” after 2019.

On the other hand, Lovro Kos caused a shock. The snow in the run was fatal for the Slovenian, slowing him down and causing him to fall. Kos remained uninjured, but because of his fall – despite flying 136 m in the first and 138.5 m in the second round – his hopes for a tour podium were probably buried.

So it goes on

On Thursday (5:25 p.m. live on SRF Zwei and in the Sport App), the second and last competition at the end of the Four Hills Tournament will take place in Bischofshofen. After that, the athletes have to do an individual and team competition in the World Cup at the same point (8/9 January).
