10 million Switch 2s in the first year? This is the forecast of this specialized firm © Nintendo

While Nintendo has still not announced anything about the Nintendo Switch 2, analysts and insiders continue to fan the embers of waiting by revealing their information. According to the analysis firm Omdia, the Japanese manufacturer would have great ambitions from the first year of life of its future machine.

In a little over a month, the Nintendo Switch and its hybrid concept will celebrate seven years on the market. With unfailing commercial longevity, the console has already sold more than 132 million copies worldwide, placing it third among the best-selling gaming machines of all time.
However, time passes, and the Switch is finding it more and more difficult to justify its technological delay. For many months now, leaks, analyzes and rumors have regularly mentioned the next console, with increasingly precise information.

10 million “Switch 2” in the first year?

In a detailed report published by the analysis firm Omdia, Nintendo would consider producing and shipping 10 million copies of its new machine during its first fiscal year, which would therefore begin in April 2024 if the console is released, as is indicated by many observers, before the end of the year.

By producing ten million units before release, the idea would be to avoid shortages and allow all people wishing to immediately invest in the console to find it without having to deal with scalpers or empty shelves.

Beyond that, the report suggests that Nintendo preferred to ensure it had the necessary components, in order to avoid an unpleasant surprise. In summary, we mention the consequences of Covid, which shut down numerous production lines, and which caused significant shortages of semiconductors. The Xbox Series and PS5 suffered from this, but the concern extended to all technology industries.

Price, type of screen, the information overlaps

For several months, informants relaying elements around what is called the Nintendo Switch 2 by default have seen their information overlap. Many people are talking about a release by the end of the year, a price around $400, and the idea of a console following in the footsteps of a Switch, the concept of which is seen by many as a form of outcome. Like its competitors, the new console would retain the DNA of the previous one, while offering more power and a simpler development framework on the developers’ side.

However, the Japanese firm seems, again according to the Omdia report, not to want a selling price that is too high. To keep the price as low as possible, the manufacturer would have opted for an 8-inch Sharp LCD screen, abandoning ( perhaps temporarily), the OLED panel.

This information transmitted by Hiroshi Hayase also allows us to envisage that the display would go from 720p to 1080p in portable mode. The fact remains that at the time of writing these lines, although the information overlaps, it must be taken with great caution. Nintendo has still not announced anything, and is barely mentioning the succession of a Switch whose sales are falling, but remain at a very high level.
