1000 hp muscle car? – Dodge E-Charger has a super loud “exhaust”!

While the big US automakers have long since jumped on the electric train, Dodge has so far been strangers to electric cars. True to the motto: senseless and fun at the same time. But now, with the Charger Daytona SRT Concept, the Stellantis brand is giving a concrete glimpse of an electric model that will probably be available from 2024 – which completely imitates a combustion engine muscle car.

It would have been obvious for a long time for Dodge to build an electric car – you can hardly invent a more appropriate name than “Charger”. Unlike Ford with the Mustang, Dodge not only uses the model name and she hangs it on an electric car, no, the electric charger should act like a combustion engine charger and also perform better than a Hellcat. The optics have already succeeded. With the two-door hatchback body, the Stromer looks like a typical muscle car, at least from the outside. At the front it wears eye-catching wings – called R-Wing – as a homage to the Dodge Charger Daytona. The door handles are recessed in the body. LED lights stretch across the entire width at the front and rear. 1000 hp in the Dodge? The manufacturer does not specify performance data, it only mentions an “800-volt Banshee four-wheel drive”. If it is to perform better than the Hellcat, it must have at least 800 hp. The Americans are said to be based on the Tesla Model S Plaid, which would mean around 1000 hp for the e-charger.Super loud exhaust soundThe craziest feature is certainly the artificially generated engine sound, an electric “exhaust” that Dodge calls “Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust”. (to be heard in the video!). This tool is said to generate infernal noise: up to 126 dB(A), which is said to match the exhaust sound of the SRT Hellcat. The car also has an automatic transmission with several gear levels. This “eRupt” transmission is intended to press the occupants into their seats when shifting gears. You can also use a button on the steering wheel to call up additional thrust for overtaking. The interior has an absolutely modern design. There is a large-format digital cockpit behind the steering wheel, and there is also a generously sized touchscreen in the center console. Switches and buttons are largely dispensed with. However, the steering wheel offers larger buttons. A head-up display, a glass panorama roof and a pulsating red ambient light as well as individual seating for both rows of seats round off the equipment. It will be interesting to see how much of all this will make it into series production…
