1000 km of autonomy: a Nissan partner promises a very enduring battery from 2024

Nissan’s main battery supplier is working on a new battery capable of delivering 1,000 kilometers of range. The company hopes to launch it for the year 2024.

If prices and the charging network are among the main obstacles to the purchase of an electric car, autonomy is also a major issue that runs through the minds of all manufacturers. This is why many investments in research and development are currently taking place within specialized companies.

This is for example the case of Envision Group – 20% owned by Nissan and formerly named Automotive Energy Supply before its takeover in 2018 –, which makes it a point of honor to develop a battery capable of providing 1,000 kilometers of autonomy. . Today, no production vehicle has reached this symbolic bar.

more cells

To do this, Envision Group intends to work on two main axes: the multiplication of the number of cells and the optimization of storage and energy efficiency, which should both affect the radius of action of connected cars as well as on their recharging capacity – always faster.

Nissan Logo

From 2024, we can therefore imagine that Nissan’s top-of-the-range electric cars will offer a four-digit range that was still difficult to imagine several years ago. Other models also claim such a range in the near future, like the Nio ET5 or several future Toyota products.

New factory

At present, 90% of the batteries shipped by Envision Group are destined for Nissan, recalls Nikkei Asia. But the company has great ambitions and intends to strengthen its customer portfolio, which could grow over the years given the strong growth in demand.

Moreover, the group will build a new factory near Tokyo, which should be operational from 2024. A production line specially dedicated to its new generation batteries will be required. It will even rely on the energy of solar panels to operate, in order to reduce its emissions as much as possible.

The Nissan Leaf gets a little facelift always welcome

Four years after its launch, the Nissan Leaf goes through the restyling box and changes its look with subtlety. On the other hand, nothing changes on the technical side.
