Geely, already known for its iconic brands, is putting its subsidiary Zeekr in the spotlight. Their latest creation, the Zeekr 001 FR, not only positions itself as a competitor, but also as a potential threat to the Tesla Model S Plaid.
Zeekr, the electric subsidiary of Chinese car giant Geely, owner of big brands like Volvo, Lotus and Polestar, has just issued a challenge to Tesla, the undisputed leader in the electric car industry. A provocative message posted on X/Twitter read: “Plaid is bores” (Plaid is boring), clearly highlighting the competition between the new Zeekr 001 FR and the Tesla Model S Plaid.
The Zeekr 001 FR in detail
The engine of the Zeekr 001 FR is really impressive. At a time when most electric cars have a single motor, it goes way beyond that. Although some high-end models such as the Tesla Model S Plaid or the Lucid Air Sapphire have opted for three motors, the Zeekr, with its four motorssets a new standard.
She offers a phenomenal power of 1,265 hp (943 kW) and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.07 seconds, with a top speed of 280 km/h.
A particularly interesting detail regarding the on-board technology is the rear motor, which uses a carbon fiber wrapped rotor. This can reach an impressive speed of 20,620 rpm, with a total power density of 4.4 W/kg.
Equipped with the CATL Qilin 100 kWh battery, the car can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 15 minutes thanks to the 800 volt system. This not only eclipses the competition, but also sets a new milestone in the super-fast charging industry.
When it comes to safety and performance, the Zeekr 001 FR is fitted with a track-level braking system, including 10-piston AP Racing brake calipers and Brembo carbon-ceramic brake discs. This level of braking performance is paramount for a car offering such acceleration and speed capabilities.
Sporty design
Compared to the standard Zeekr 001, the FR variant is clearly inspired by the world of racing. It is adorned with a more aggressive front fascia, a sharp front splitter, enlarged air intakes, flared side skirts and oversized wheels fitted with high-performance tires. At the rear, a roof spoiler joins a fixed spoiler on the trunk, completed by a revised bumper with integrated diffuser. The sporty touch is undeniable.

The Zeekr 001 FR relies, of course, heavily on the use of lightweight carbon fiber components, thus optimizing aerodynamic performance.
As for connectivity, the Zeekr 001 FR uses the Geespace satellite networkand incorporates a satellite communication pack, ensuring a continuous connection even in areas where the cellular network is lacking.
