129 pages for 3 hours of film: you can read the script of The Batman

Matt Reeves’ film with Robert Pattinson is available in written version for those who want to relive The Batman without… the images.

The Batman was one of the big hits of the year in cinema, both at the box office and in terms of reviews. The long-awaited Matt Reeves film casts Robert Pattinson as the Dark Knight, alongside Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman.

Matt Reeves’ work was distinguished by jaw-dropping cinematography. You can now read the script, online, in PDF. This is part of the initiative of the American media Deadline, Read the Screenplay, dedicated to the promotion of scripts for the blockbuster films of the year.

In this section, you will also find the scripts of Pinocchio by Guillermo Del Toro or even The Northman and The Woman King. A year ago, Deadline had done the same by making available the script of Spider-Man No Way Home.

“I Am Vengeance”

The script of The Batman was written by Matt Reeves and Peter Craig. Despite the 3 hours of film, there are only 129 pages. Unsurprisingly: we cannot say that The Batman be particularly… talkative. But that will have been enough: the three little words of the reply ” I Am Revenge are becoming cult.

The history of the production of the feature film will have been incredible. Initially, it was a spin-off set in the DC Extended Universe. In fact, Ben Affleck was to return to his original role as Batman. He was even supposed to produce the feature film, co-write it and direct it. Then he threw in the towel and Matt Reeves started over from scratch. Soon it was decided that The Batman would join Joker among the independent films of the DC Comics stable, in total disconnection with the extended universe.

The Batman does not tell an origin story. Bruce Wayne is already in his second year in the Dark Knight costume and he’s mastered his role as a masked vigilante quite well. And the feature film is actually more of a thriller than a superheroic film.

In any case, the cardboard of the film has made small: the sequel is expected for 2024 and a TV series, at HBO, is in preparation – a priori rather centered around the Penguin.
