The fans in the sold-out ice rink in Humenne, Slovakia cheered once again shortly before the final siren: Andrej Kollar scored into an empty goal to make it 3-0 and finally decided this game 15 seconds before the end. This also sealed the Swiss national ice hockey team’s 12th defeat in a row.
Test match lives up to the name
It was clear from the start to both teams that they were at the start of their World Cup preparations. The Swiss competed without NHL players or National League semi-finalists, which was particularly noticeable offensively. The guests struggled to create promising chances throughout the game.
Mike Künzle came closest to a Swiss goal with his two chances (6th/40th), but was ultimately unsuccessful. Tristan Scherwey also couldn’t avoid defeat in his 100th international match.
Sandro Aeschlimann showed an appealing performance between the posts, except for Alex Tamasi making it 0-2. Tamasi left Simon Le Coultre standing and beat Aeschlimann on the catching hand side.
Start of preparation
This 3-0 defeat in Humenne (SVK) marked the beginning of the World Cup preparations for Patrick Fischer’s team. Despite the defeat after 60 minutes, the Swiss were able to achieve a tiny success: The Swiss won the test penalty shootout after the 60 minutes played 3-1 (after 5 shooters each).
