“Less is more” is the motto when it comes to packing the beach bag or backpack for a trip to the lake or the sea. Unfortunately, it is often the valuables that we cannot do without. Whether the smartphone, the car key, the camera, the wallet or even just the EC card, it is often not possible without it.
But how can we best hide these important valuables when we want to go into the water with our loved ones or take a long walk on the beach? Because looking restlessly at the towel in the sea because you’re afraid something might be stolen is anything but a stress-free holiday! We’ve got a few great ideas that you probably don’t know yet, so that you can swim without worrying that your valuables have disappeared after you’ve cooled off in the water. Let’s go!
Smart tips on where to hide your valuables
1. Who drank the Capri-Sun?
A still unknown and smart hiding place is the empty Capri-Sun. Wash out the empty packaging at home and carefully cut open the bottom. Push in the cash or the EC card. When you go in the water, leave the Capri-Sun with the straw in halfway under the towel so you don’t see the cut part. Pretty unlikely a thief would take the trash. Or?
2. Don’t forget the sunscreen, honey!
The trick with the sunscreen is similar. However, not particularly new. There are now even fake sunscreen tubes online that you can buy and hide your belongings in. Of course, other packaging and bottles are also wonderfully suited as a secret depot. Small valuables such as rings, necklaces or cash can easily be hidden in, for example, perfume sprayers, empty cigarette boxes or rouge or powder compacts.
3. Of course, on hot days we also have to drink plenty of water…
On hot days, thieves suspect drinking bottles to contain cooling liquid rather than hot goods. There are even thermos flasks with an extra secret compartment for valuables. Mostly the hidden compartment is in the bottom with invisible twist lock for cash, keys, jewelry.
4. To tie hair…
… and to hide things. A really genius tip is the scrunchi hair tie with a zipper. It is available online from various providers. And hard to believe, but cash, keys and cards actually fit in!
5. A snacktastic hideaway
Do you already know the trick with the lunch box? It’s best to take a really worn out, old snack box. Inside you put a piece of bread, which is not smeared, but only serves as a hiding place. Place your banknotes or credit card between the slices of bread. Tadaa! You already have a hiding place that only a really hungry crook might come up with.
6. Attention, tripping hazard!
Also available online is the fake stone, which really feels and looks like a stone. It is hollow on the inside and is an ideal storage box for keys.
7. Ingenious beach bag 2.0
Perhaps you have already discovered them with other bathers: special backpacks that can be attached to the lounger, for example. Are you swimming on a sandy beach? Then it’s a good idea to bury your wallet or car key in a small plastic bag in the sand. 11. The favorite book becomes a treasure chest

If there’s a really smart idea to hide your valuables, it’s the diaper trick. Just awesome! You (of course) take an empty diaper and wrap everything that is important to you in it. Then tape them together to make it look like the diaper is full. It’s best to pack the diaper in a plastic bag, so it looks realistic.
