140 kilometers of range, affordable price: Aldi reduces city e-bikes by another 400 euros

• Aldi currently has many different e-bikes on offer in its online shop.
• Among other things, the discounter sells a city bike with a long range.
• The model has already been available from Aldi several times, but for a whopping 400 euros more.

Aldi currently offers some e-bikes in its online shop. You get a good deal with the city bike from Prophete. The e-bike was already available from discounters last spring, but at that time it cost a whopping 400 euros more. Instead of the 1,399 euros announced at the time, you only pay 999 euros.

The e-bike comes with 28-inch rims and a mid-engine from TRIO e-novation is used as the engine. This supports you with up to 50 Newton meters. A decent performance that is sufficient even for steep climbs. The battery sits between the seat tube and the rear wheel. The capacity is 461 watt hours. According to the manufacturer, a range of up to 140 kilometers is possible.

The gears are a Shimano Nexus Inter hub gear with 7 gears. This is controlled via a twist grip on the handlebars. There are no hydraulic disc brakes, but that’s bearable given the price. Instead, hydraulic rim brakes are installed – at least relatively good ones from brand manufacturer Magura.

Suspension fork and lighting system

Further equipment includes a suspension fork from Suntour, an installed lighting system and a pushing aid up to 6 km/h. The bike itself weighs around 27 kilograms, the maximum permissible total weight is 140 kilograms.

The city bike from the discounter is rock solid. The inexpensive mid-motor offers good support power, the battery capacity is appropriate for the price and is in the middle range compared to high-priced bikes. Apart from that, the components installed are decent and sometimes come from well-known manufacturers. From our point of view, the e-bike is sufficient for short tours, shopping, etc.

The Prophete e-bike has a recommended retail price of 1,699.95 euros. At Aldi the bike currently only costs 999 euros; most recently the discounter was charging 1,399 euros.
