Marcel Hug had an incredibly strong showing in Tokyo three years ago, winning four gold medals. Three years later, he is no longer quite so irresistible in the French capital. Accordingly, after the 5000 m race, he also found a conqueror over the 1500 m distance. This time, Jin Hua was clearly in the shadow of the Thurgau runner.

The Thurgau native is now in the middle of his 6th Paralympics in Paris and has an impressive Paralympics haul: 14 medals, 6 of them gold. What many may dismiss as a slight disappointment is something the wheelchair athlete refuses to accept. The 38-year-old and oldest athlete in the final field asserted: “It feels good. I definitely won silver today and didn’t lose gold.”
