The authorizations of many DTT channels expire in 2025.
From next year, many groups will have to go through a call for applications to be able to continue broadcasting their channels.
A call for applications launched by ARCOM
It was March 31, 2005, DTT (for digital terrestrial television) was officially launched in France, with a total of 13 free channels and one pay channel. Exit the six historic channels of analog television, and then place new channels, which will expand over the years.
Almost 20 years later, the Authority for the regulation of audiovisual and digital communication (ARCOM) indicates that the authorizations of fifteen national television services will expire in 2025. To date, ten audiovisual groups are present on DTT, which publish a total of 31 television services (26 free and 5 pay).
Anything new on DTT in 2025?
Also, given the large number of authorizations concerned, ARCOM will soon launch a process for allocating these resources through a call for applications. This, in accordance with article 30-1 of the law n° 86-1067 of September 30, 1986 relating to the freedom of communication. A major event for DTT, since ARCOM explains that this is ” the largest frequency allocation wave since the launch of DTT in the early 2000s. »
In concrete terms, from February 2025, the authorizations for the channels C8, W9, TMC, TFX, NRJ12, LCI, Paris Première and Canal+ (in June) will expire, followed (at the end of August) by BFM TV, CNEWS, CStar, Gulli, Planète+ and Canal+ Sport/Cinéma.
The public consultation set up by ARCOM is intended to collect comments from interested parties on the impact of the allocation of these resources and on the procedures for appealing against them.
The consultation is open to audiovisual operators authorized on national DTT or who would like to become one following a forthcoming call for applications, as well as to any interested person who would like to make comments. Contributions should be sent directly to ARCOM, before September 29th.
