15 series and 3 films: this famous dog will return for Netflix and the creator of Riverdale!

“Scooby-Doo” is making a comeback on Netflix! The platform is developing a new series around the fearful dog and his investigative friends, entrusted to the “Riverdale” team.

We will no longer ask ourselves the question: Scooby-Doo, where are you? Our colleagues at Deadline exclusively reveal Netflix’s acquisition of the live-action series Scooby-Doo, adapted from the famous 60s cartoon.

Scooby-Doo features a group of friends investigating mysteries. Aboard their van (the famous Mystery Machine), Fred, Vera, Daphné and Sammy are accompanied on their adventures by Scooby, a great Dane with speech skills and a sandwich lover.

In the early 2000s, two live-action feature films were released. Written by James Gunn, these films notably starred Sarah Michelle Gellar and Matthew Lillard in the lead roles and were very successful at the box office. Other versions live-action more confidential ones have also come out in recent years.

A Riverdale treatment?

The new Netflix series will be produced by Greg Berlanti, the creator of the Riverdale, Arrow and Flash series. No details on the plot of the program have leaked, but it appears unlikely that the series is a sequel to the two Scooby Doo feature films mentioned above.

Will the famous cartoon be the subject of a darker adaptation aimed at a young adult audience, like the Riverdale series (from the Archie comics)? This new project marks the extension of a long-standing collaboration between Netflix and Greg Berlanti, following in particular the series The New Adventures of Sabrina and You, and the recent success of Dead Boy Detectives.
