16 GB of RAM for the Galaxy S25 Ultra, but for what purpose?

The Galaxy S25 Ultra should be entitled to 16 GB of RAM. This RAM will be used in particular for new AI functions.

Galaxy S24 Ultra

Always more. With 12 GB of RAM, the latest generations of Galaxy S Ultra were already well equipped with RAM. The Galaxy S25 Ultra should go even further since it would feature up to 16 GB of RAM. The information comes from leaker Sawyer Galox, specialized in the South Korean tech industry, and more particularly on what relates to future Samsung products.

According to him, the latest Galaxy S25 Ultra prototype designed by the manufacturer’s engineers is currently available in three configurations. The first would be equipped with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. The other two would benefit from 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB or 1 TB of internal memory. Rumors suggesting a version with 2 TB of storage are unfounded, but Samsung would consider offering a premium smartphone at 1.5 TB in 2026 or 2027.

Galaxy S25 Ultra: more RAM, as much storage

The move to 16GB of RAM isn’t really surprising. Today, even mid-range Chinese smartphones can offer this amount of RAM. This is for example the case of the OnePlus Nord 3. Remember also that old Samsung mobile models, such as the Galaxy S20 Ultra and Galaxy S21 Ultra, offered 16 GB of RAM at the time. Subsequent generations then returned to 12 GB.

These 16 GB of RAM will not only be used to look good on the technical sheet, however. Samsung would need this additional RAM to introduce new AI-related features, which can be resource-intensive. The Galaxy S25 series is expected to include the second generation of Gemini Nano. Google’s large language model should power new multimodal generative AI options called Galaxy AI. 16 GB of RAM will not be too much to ensure a certain level of performance. The performance of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC will also be scrutinized in this regard.

The technology used for the RAM will be LPDDR5X, while the storage will rely on UFS 4.0 and its very fast speeds. Another interesting information shared by Sawyer Galox, the size of the screen diagonal should increase to 6.9 incheswhile we have been entitled to a 6.8 inch panel for years.
