For the first time, Dell will allow one of its laptops to be configured with an ARM processor, in this case the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2, offered as an option on the brand new Inspiron 14.

Dell has announced a new mid-range laptop model: the Inspiron 14. Available now, the device is the first from Dell to be configured with an ARM chip, the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 from Qualcomm. With this SoC, the device starts at 499 dollars across the Atlantic and benefits from a solid autonomy, estimated at 16 hours by Dell.

An ideal office machine

In detail, this model is based on 8 GB of RAM (a priori LPDDR4X) and 256 GB of SSD storage, while there is a 14-inch IPS screen in Full HD. Enough to make it an efficient machine in office automation and for everyday use. According to Windows Central, and unlike the Intel and AMD versions also announced for this new Inspiron 14, the ARM configuration would be content with a 16:9 format panel, which would partly explain its relatively aggressive price placement.

For the rest, this model has two USB-C 3.2 ports, a USB-A 2.0 port, a headphone jack and an SD card reader. There is also a 1080p webcam and Windows 10 Home “S”.

What about the French market?

It is not known, however, if this ARM configuration of the Inspiron 14 will ultimately arrive in France. Launched in the United States, the device is not displayed in the official catalog of Dell France. We contacted the brand to find out more.

In our latitudes, the AMD configuration starts anyway at a price of 799 euros, with a Ryzen 5 7530U, 8 GB of RAM (LPDDR5) and 512 GB of SSD on board. On the Intel side, this time you have to pay 880 euros for a Core i5-1335U, 8 GB of RAM in LPDDR5, and 256 GB of SSD. In both cases, Dell finally opts for a 14-inch Full HD + panel, in 16:10 format.

Update: Dell has told us that the ARM model of the Inspiron 14 will unfortunately not be marketed in France.
