16 things we all do with our grandparents

Although all families are different, there are some things we all necessarily do when we go to our grandparents! No doubt you will recognize yourself.

Whether you are young or old, going to your grandparents is often a real moment of happiness. Whether they are cake grandpas and grandmas, or prankster grandparents, they love us more than anything and are always happy to see us. And this even if we make them see all the colors!

This beautiful relationship is perfectly illustrated in Tim Hill's new film, My grandfather and me, with Robert De Niro and Uma Thurman. When Ed's daughter judges that he cannot live on his own, she forces him to come and live with her, her husband and her three children, Peter, Jenny and Mia. For lack of space at home, Peter has to give up his room to his grandfather and move… to the attic! Angry, he decides to declare war on his grandpa, without suspecting that the latter is far from giving way. All shots are allowed !

While this comedy is hilarious, it also reminds us of how precious the bond with our grandparents is.

While waiting to let you discover the film, we remembered all those things that we inevitably do when we go to our grandpas / grandmas. Because yes, they almost all adopt the same behavior towards their grandchildren:

  • Eat (way too much). Our grandparents tend to think that we are not eating enough outside their home, and therefore force-feed us like geese.
  • Explain to them how their new phone works, fix a problem on the television or put the wifi code on the computer. Because of that, they'll see us as Steve Jobs. Moreover, it is not uncommon for the little ones to be the most gifted at explaining technology to grandpa or grandma.
  • Play board games, such as the game of little horses or The Good Pay or Scrabble. And cheat, of course.
  • Discover the latest neighborhood gossip. Because yes, knowing that Michelle, the neighbor, had her foot surgery last week is vital.
  • Listen to their stories, which often start with “you know, in my day”.
  • Watch Vivement Dimanche, Questions pour un champion, or any program hosted by Nagui.
  • Doing stupid things together, like Ed and Peter, forced to escape the cop after an unauthorized fishing trip.
  • Make your vacation notebook. Parents love to buy it, but still prefer to pass the chore off on Grandpa and Grandma (yes yes, don't try to deny).
  • Do crosswords, arrows or sudoku (and discover a passion).
  • Complain about your parents. Because we know they will take our side.
  • Learn their secrets. In the film, Ed tells Peter, among other things, that he placed a photo of him and his wife in all the chimneys of the houses he built!
  • Explain what you do in school / in life, back and forth.
  • Be pampered and pampered (and enjoy it to the fullest).
  • Do manual and creative activities. Kind of like Ed, who helps Jenny make her birthday cards.
  • Carry: who will be the most joker? Avoid going as far as Ed and Peter though, your parents may be less accommodating.
  • Leave with the equivalent of a week's worth of food in Tupperware and a small ticket along the way.

My grandfather and me will be released in theaters on October 7th.
