A 34-year-old Colombian was taken into police custody on Wednesday February 9 after the violent knife attack on an 18-year-old girl on Saturday morning in Nantes, said the public prosecutor, Renaud Gaudeul. The facts took place on avenue Camus, very close to the city center. The victim – a student in a scientific preparatory class in a Nantes high school – had seven wounds, including a haemorrhagic one on the neck. She had been taken to hospital in serious condition and an investigation, entrusted to the Nantes departmental security, had been opened for attempted murder.

The public prosecutor gave several details on the arrest of this individual born in Bogota. The day after the events, Sunday February 6, a veterinarian working near the scene of the attack reported to the authorities that she had treated an individual who had a wound on his hand. Disseminated in the investigation services, this information made it possible to make the connection with an individual checked by the border police in Rennes when he got off a train from Nantes on Saturday.
The individual was referred Friday evening to the prosecution and presented to an investigating magistrate. He was indicted for “attempted murder”, “theft”, “concealment of theft” and “fraud” and remanded in custody by the judge of freedoms and detention. “During his police custody, the person concerned admitted the facts, without explaining the reasons except for massive alcoholism and consumption of narcotics.“, specified the public prosecutor of Nantes.

This individual was the subject of an arrest warrant issued by an Agen sentence enforcement judge on January 24, 2022, specifies the prosecution. He had indeed failed to respect a probationary suspended sentence and had meanwhile been imprisoned in the Rennes penitentiary center.
“The checks immediately carried out, including genetic analyses, made it possible to gather sufficient elements to justify his placement in police custody for attempted voluntary homicide.“, Details the public prosecutor of Nantes.
