Bids skyrocket when a 91-year-old investor legend auctions a joint lunch for charity for the last time in more than 20 years. The highest bidder can even bring guests.

Rand an unknown bidder shelled out $19 million for a lunch with legendary US investor Warren Buffett. The auction on the online portal Ebay started last Sunday with a starting price of 25,000 dollars (almost 24,000 euros). Until Friday there were bids at dizzying heights. The anonymous winner can bring up to seven guests to lunch with the billionaire at a New York steakhouse for $19,000,100.

Buffett has auctioned a meal in his company there every year since 1999. He donates the proceeds to the homeless in San Francisco, California. Because of the corona pandemic, the expensive lunch with the investor legend was canceled twice. This year it should be the last event of this kind with the 91-year-old.

In previous years, thanks to the campaign, he had met “interesting people from all over the world,” Buffett said, according to an Ebay statement. “What they have in common is that they feel the money is well spent.”
