The cult comedy “Lolita Despite Me” returns to the cinema for a new version! Here is the trailer.
19 years after the theatrical release of Lolita Despite Me, the cult comedy returns to the cinema! Already screenwriter of the original film, Tina Fey is back to writing and producing this feature film which is inspired by the musical “Mean Girls” (also written by Fey), launched on Broadway in March 2018. The film is revealed today via a first trailer available above.
Directed by Arturo Perez Jr. and Samantha Jayne, the film follows Cady Heron (played here by Angourie Rice seen in Mare of Easttown and The Nice Guys), a new student who finds herself rubbing shoulders with the elite of the social food chain : the most popular girls in school nicknamed “The Plastics”, led by Regina George (Reneé Rapp who already plays the character in the musical) and her minions Gretchen (Bebe Wood) and Karen (Avantika Vandanapu). But when Cady has a crush on Aaron (Christopher Briney), she doesn’t immediately realize that she has just made a big mistake, her new friend will quickly turn into an enemy. Cady decides to overthrow the established order with the help of her loser friends, Janis (Auli’i Cravalho) and Damian (Jaquel Spivey).
Tina Fey and Tim Meadows, already in the cast of the 2005 film, reprise their respective roles of teacher and Principal of the high school while Ashley Park (Emily in Paris), Jon Hamm (Mad Men) and Busy Philipps (Cougar Town, Dawson) complete the distribution of this new version.
Released in French theaters in 2005, Lolita Despite Me by Mark Waters starred Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried and Lacey Chabert. The feature film, which is inspired by the personal development novel by Roselind Wiseman “Queen Bees and Wannabes“, is now considered a cult film and the precursor to the series Gossip Girl, High School Musical and Glee.
Mean Girls is scheduled to be released in theaters on January 10, 2024, giving you a great start to the year.
