Germany, in crisis, achieved a victory for morale in the friendly against France.

The DFB team won game 1 after the dismissal of coach Hansi Flick. In the test against France, the Germans celebrated a 2-1 victory under the direction of interim coach Rudi Völler. It was the first success after 3 defeats de suite against Poland, Colombia and most recently Japan.

Müller and Sané successful

Germany was in Dortmund against a heavily rebuilt France, which, among other things, was without the ailing Kylian Mbappé, and above all the team with the greater will. Thomas Müller scored in the 4th minute for the 45th time in his 123rd international match.

Leroy Sané made it 2-0 in the 87th minute. France came within one goal in the 89th minute thanks to a penalty converted by Antoine Griezmann. But it was no longer enough for a draw.

Search for Flick successor

After the turbulent days, there should be at least a bit of calm in Germany after the win against one of the world’s best teams. But it is also clear that the question of the next national coach will continue to be the focus of interest in the immediate future. “Firefighter” Völler had already explained before the game that his coaching comeback was a “one-off thing”.

The 63-year-old Völler was celebrated by over 60,000 fans in Dortmund. Still, it seems unlikely that he will change his mind. The German national team is going on tour to the USA in October, and a solution should be found by then.
