Marco Odermatt returns to victory in the 2nd Super-G in Garmisch. Franjo von Allmen sensationally celebrates his podium debut in 3rd place.

The podium

  • 1. Marco Odermatt (SUI) 1:10.13 minutes
  • 2. Raphael Haaser (AUT) +0.30 seconds
  • 3. Franjo von Allmen (SUI) +0.61 seconds

Marco Odermatt returned to the top step of the podium in Garmisch-Partenkirchen with an impressive performance. While the Nidwalden native missed third place by 3 hundredths the day before, he left no doubts on Sunday and celebrated a dominant victory. It is the 33rd success in the World Cup, which brings him level with the American Bode Miller.

On the short route, which was in better condition than the day before, Odermatt drove at the limit, but the risk paid off: the 26-year-old’s journey was high in every sector and he was able to take the train almost everywhere. Logical consequence: clear lead and a time in which every driver subsequently gritted his teeth.

In addition to Odermatt, another Swiss person provided the story of the day. Franjo von Allmen, who raced into the top 10 on Saturday with start number 44, tackled a race from the top 20 for the first time in his young career – and took full advantage of the good starting position. The intrepid 22-year-old once again showed a great drive and, thanks to a strong finish, pushed Vincent Kriechmayr off 3rd place by 3 hundredths. In only his 12th World Cup race, the Bernese Oberlander celebrated his podium debut. In between, the Austrian Raphael Haaser took second place.

The other Swiss in the points

In addition to Von Allmen, Arnaud Boisset, another up-and-coming Swiss ski athlete, celebrated his career best result. The 25-year-old from Valais was impressive with start number 24 and finished 7th. Stefan Rogentin (11th) and Justin Murisier (12th) rounded off another strong Swiss team result with two more top 15 rankings.

This is how it continues

Next weekend the speed riders unexpectedly have to take a break because the planned departures in Chamonix (FRA) cannot be carried out due to the high temperatures. The slalom at the same location can take place next Sunday. This means that only the technology specialists are the focus at the foot of Mont Blanc. The next departure will take place on February 17th in Kvitfjell, Norway.
