The Lunar Lake architecture should allow Intel to significantly reduce the power consumption of its processors, especially for mobiles.

Lunar Lake, this is a name that we are not yet very used to. Perhaps, moreover, we will never be too Clubictaking into account the audience targeted by Intel for this range.

Scheduled for release in 2025, Lunar Lake should indeed be more focused on low-consumption devices, but that should not stop us from keeping up to date.

Lunar Lake goes into orbit

Indeed, even if more than a year separates us from the release of Lunar Lake, the architecture has already been highlighted by Intel, notably during its latest event, Intel Innovation 2023.

Even more recently, it is the SiSoft Sandra software database which reports a “Lunar Lake entry”. This is obviously not a final version chip, but an engineering sample whose reference – Intel 0000 – leaves little room for doubt: the chip is still under construction.

However, the name of the platform associated with this chip – LNL-P LPP RVP1 – confirms its membership in the Lunar Lake family and the database also specifies support for LPDDR5 memory.

It’s still far too early to take all the information in the database at face value, but it definitely gives some clues, especially when things are so precise.

Indeed, the SiSoft listing indicates that the Lunar Lake processor in question has 20 cores and is capable of reaching a maximum frequency of 3.91 GHz. More importantly, the power highlighted in the base is only 17 watts, which bodes very well for Lunar Lake.

The 20 cores mentioned are not detailed and the information that follows on the SiSoft listing is a bit contradictory. The L2 cache breaks down as follows, 4x 2.5MB + 4MB L2 which suggests the presence of 4 efficient cores… so 16 efficient cores? Odd.

Remember that previous leaks had suggested that Lunar Lake would focus on consumption by using the same cores as Arrow Lake, an association of Lion Cove and Skymont. There remains the question of the integrated graphics solution, undoubtedly based on Xe2-LPG.
