20 hectares in size – mega photovoltaic system planned in Rosental

An energy community wants to set up one of the largest energy parks in Carinthia in St. Jakob im Rosental. The performance is particularly noteworthy.

An electrifying lighthouse project is to be created in St. Jakob im Rosental. An energy community would like to set up a photovoltaic park on around 20 hectares of the industrial park in the St. Peter district. “We could supply a total of 5,360 households with this, or drive an electric car over 158,000 million kilometers,” explains Martin Melinz, owner of the business park and co-initiator of the energy park. The project would not only generate electricity for the whole of St. Jakob, but also save more than ten thousand tons of CO₂ annually the “Kärntner Krone”: “That would certainly contribute to local development.” After completion, the system should deliver a total of more than 23 megawatts. The neighboring Kelag substation is to be used to feed electricity into the grid. “We expect costs of around 23 million euros for the entire project,” says Melinz.
