20% of French people will not be able to offer gifts to their children

An Ifop study carried out for the association "Dons solidaires" shows that 20% of parents will not be able to spoil their children at Christmas. How to help them?

Unsurprisingly, the coronavirus has amplified precariousness in France. And the latest Ifop study on the subject, released on December 7 and commissioned by the Dons solidaires association, proves it: one in five parents will have to give up buying gifts for their children this year. "The health crisis has pushed one million French people into poverty, in addition to the 9.3 million people already living below the poverty line in France. These are all families, young people, students. , unemployed, isolated people who will deprive themselves of end-of-year gifts ", declares Dominique Besançon, General Delegate of Solidarity Donations. In order to be able to spoil their children a little, some parents think about making concessions. "52% will go without other things, 46% make smaller gifts and 37% buy second-hand", adds the association. In these families in great difficulty, 1.9 million parents will rely on outside help (associations, family) to offer gifts to their children. Knowing that nearly 41% of French people experience a feeling ashamed and guilty about it.

How to make solidarity donations for Christmas?

Solidarity activities make it possible to collect financial donations, new toys and gastronomic products, so that the magic of Christmas is present. Donations Solidaire is launching the "Christmas for All" operation for the 11th consecutive year. The idea: to collect unsold non-food items from businesses and thus fight against insecurity by redistributing them to the most disadvantaged. "Whether you are a company, a foundation or an institution, we all share an essential value: solidarity", recalls the association. Other initiatives exist, such as the green Santa Claus at the Secours Populaire. For its part, via an online application, Emmaüs lists all the collection points where you can make your donations and / or solidarity purchases. Do not hesitate to inquire about initiatives in your region, to give or to receive.
