From middle school to high school, the events of September 11, 2001 were integrated into school curricula. But how is this drama which has become historic taught to our children?

On Saturday, the United States will commemorate 20 years of the historic attacks of September 11, 2001. On that day, more than 3,000 people lost their lives in the attacks on the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and the crash of the United Airlines flight 93.

Since the facts, this date, which has become synonymous with tragedy, appears in textbooks and school programs. But what class are our children taught on September 11, 2001, and how? BFM TV inquired about the subject.

From college, in third grade

In the chapter “Issues and conflicts in the world after 1989”, the attacks of September 11 are studied during the last point of the school curriculum.

In high school in the final year, an essential historical event to know

The year of the baccalaureate, impossible to ignore, it appears in the chapter “Cooperation and conflicts since 1990”. According to Pascal Kittel, professor of history and geography in a high school in Strasbourg, it is “inevitable in the common core”, he declares to the news site.

For teachers who experienced this event and who have to teach it to unborn students, one might think that it is not easy to tackle such a controversial, so complex date. But for most college and high school students it is a subject that is not unfamiliar to them.

Note that the current school program dates from 2016 and that since that time, many events have occurred in the United States: the Iraq / Syria conflict, the presidency of Donald Trump or the Sahel war.
