2023 – National Council Canton Lucerne – Surprise at the expense of the GLP: SP gets second seat

Assessment by SRF regional editor Sämi Studer:

There is a surprising shift in the distribution of Lucerne’s nine seats in the National Council: the SP gains one seat – at the expense of the GLP. It seems as if the issues of health insurance premiums and inflation have benefited the SP.

The SP can certainly celebrate this success thanks to a strong list of cantonal council members and a well-known driving force, the former national Juso president David Roth.

The fact that the SVP, contrary to all forecasts, remains with two seats is surprising. This is probably because, in contrast to the center or the FDP, the party ran with far fewer candidates and a less strong main list.

The election outcome is bitter for Roland Fischer from the GLP, who was elected to the National Council for the first time in 2011. He already missed re-election in 2015, was then re-elected in 2019 – and now has to vacate his seat again.
