The French Communist Party has announced that its candidates will withdraw in the second round in the event of a possible victory for the RN, and will call to vote for a “republican candidate”. A few days ago, the Ecologists also announced that their candidates who came third would also withdraw in the second round to block the RN.
The candidates of the French Communist Party in the early legislative elections will withdraw in the second round in favor of a “republican candidate” in the event of a possible victory for the National Rally, the PCF announced Thursday in a press release.
“In all duels opposing a candidate from a Republican force to a candidate from the extreme right, we will call for a vote for the Republican candidate. And if a PCF candidate finds himself qualified for the second round in third position in a three-way race, he will withdraw so that the best-placed Republican candidate has the best chance of beating the extreme right,” wrote the PCF in a press release.
“Faithful to its history, the PCF will act in all circumstances without weakness to defeat the extreme right. It calls on all republican forces, beyond our opposition to projects, to position themselves clearly against the extreme right,” adds the party of Fabien Roussel, which will present around fifty candidates in the legislative elections, as part of the New Popular Front alliance.
The Greens have also announced that they will block the second round.
Last Monday, the Ecologists were the first left-wing party to announce that their candidates who came third would withdraw in the second round to block the RN. “I don’t imagine that the position of other members of the New Popular Front could be different,” Marine Tondelier told AFP.
La France insoumise indicated that it would wait for the results of the first round to give instructions in the event of a triangular but has already explained that it called for blocking the RN in the second rounds where it would not be present.
