CES 2024 is an opportunity for Samsung to launch refreshed versions of its Odyssey OLED screens.
Samsung Odyssey screens have long played in the big leagues. Without claiming that they are the best in the world, they are clearly among the most efficient. On the occasion of CES 2024, the South Korean brand unveiled new products which mark a significant evolution in its range.
The G95SD, a subtle but connected evolution
The successor to the Odyssey OLED G9, the G95SDfollows on from its predecessor with a 49-inch OLED panel in 32:9 format and a refresh rate of 240 Hz. The characteristics and design remain identical, but the change lies elsewhere.
The G95SD now includes technology matter. This universal connectivity protocol allows control of smart home devices through the built-in Samsung SmartThings Hub. The monitor thus turns into a real home control center. In addition, thanks to Tizen, it becomes a full-fledged Smart TV, allowing games to be streamed directly to the screen via cloud gaming services such as Xbox Cloud Gaming or Nvidia GeForce Now, without requiring a PC or console.
The G80SD, pioneer of flat OLED at Samsung
Another notable product is the G8, more precisely theOdyssey OLED G8 (G80SD). This is the first Samsung monitor to ship a flat OLED panel 32-inch screen in 16:9 format with 4K definition and a refresh rate of 240 Hz. While its smart features are comparable to those of the G95SD, it is missing one notable feature. If you are looking for the ultimate connectivity, note the absence of USB-C, including Power Delivery, which could limit certain configurations or uses, especially when we know the importance of this connection in modern setups.
In addition, Samsung offers the Odyssey OLED G6 (G60SD), equipped with a 27-inch OLED panel andan impressive 360Hz refresh rate. With a definition of 2560 x 1440 pixels, this monitor is clearly designed for performance enthusiasts. You need a well-equipped PC to take advantage of such features.
