Apart from the opening matches which will take place in South America, the 2030 FIFA World Cup will take place in Morocco, Spain and Portugal. The presidents of the federations of these three countries met again in Lisbon this Wednesday morning to prepare the letter of intent which will begin the formalization of their file.

Fifa unveiled, this Wednesday, October 4, a new formula for its 2030 World Cup, which raises a number of questions. For the first time in the history of the tournament, the European, African and South American confederations agreed on a single candidacy, presented by Morocco, Spain and Portugal, but providing for three matches in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay.

“Three continents and six countries”

One hundred years after the first edition in Montevideo, the men’s World Cup “will therefore unite three continents and six countries”, promises the football body, which must still validate the technical criteria and will not officially award the competition until the end of 2024.

It is important to remember that the initial application comes from three countries (Morocco, Spain and Portugal) and their federation president met again in Lisbon this Wednesday morning. This meeting therefore brought together Fernando Gomes (Portuguese Federation), Fouzi Lekjaa (Royal Moroccan Federation) and Pedro Rocha (Royal Spanish Federation) and served to continue the preparation of this candidacy.

During this meeting at Cidade do Futebol, the headquarters of the Portuguese Federation, the leaders of the three federations decided to present, on October 28, the letter of intent which will begin the formalization of their file, thus responding to one requirements of the application process. This joint letter will be presented in Rabat, in the presence of representatives of the three federations.
