With the Luganesi’s first chance in the second half, Zan Celar made it 2-0 for the guests – and thus brought the fire back into the game. The Slovenian completed a classic counterattack: After a long pass from Sandi Lovric, Celar ran on goal from a tight angle. GC goalie André Moreira was able to deflect his shot, but only scraped the rolling ball out again just behind the goal line (71′).
GC, which woke up in the second half and took control of the game, showed morale. In front of just over 3000 spectators in Letzigrund, the people of Zurich continued to power and were rewarded only 6 minutes after the 0:2: Kaly Sène won the header duel against Reto Ziegler in a corner kick and nodded off. It was the 1st goal this year for the GC top scorer.
In the final phase, the Zurich team didn’t want to succeed anymore, they also lost the second duel of the season with Lugano. Thanks to the 3 points in the table, this keeps up with the top trio of FCZ, YB and FCB.
A strong start is enough for Lugano
The Luganesi earned this victory mainly thanks to a powerful start phase. The guests from Ticino should have taken the lead after just 15 minutes, Olivier Custodio miserably missed a half-hearted header on the 2nd post.
In the 17th minute, Lugano was rewarded for his field superiority: After losing the ball in Zurich’s build-up game, Mattia Bottani found Celar with a fine pass, which caught Moreira between the legs. As a result, Mattia Croci-Torti’s team had the game under control against harmless “Hoppers” – at least until the tea break.
GC, for its part, remained without penetrating power over long stretches. The only source of trouble was Sène, who, however, lacked a lot of his nose for goals. Ermir Lenjani had the greatest GC chance in the second half when his long-range shot just missed the post (63′).
This is how it goes
Both teams are back in action on Sunday. The Luganesi host FCB at home, GC also has a home game against Servette.
