When Chris Bedia made his comeback against Sion two weeks ago after a five-month injury break, the striker introduced himself perfectly with a brace. Despite being 2-0 up and outnumbered, Servette had to settle for a 2-2 draw at the Stade de Genève.
Bedia also shone with two goals in the home game against the Grasshoppers on Saturday. As in the Sion game, the 26-year-old from Ivory Coast was taken off the field by Alain Geiger in the 68th minute when the score was 2-1. But this time the “Grenats” brought the lead over time and celebrated their first victory this year. At the same time, Servette also won the third duel with GC this season.
Picking and Antunes are perfect
Bedia made it 1-0 for Geneva after exactly half an hour. Patrick Pluck played a perfect ball from the left down the Ivorian’s path, who put the ball past GC goalie André Moreira on the left and let it tumble into the goal.
Grasshoppers, who were unlucky after Filipe de Carvalho shot the post in the 22nd minute, equalized after 57 minutes. After Steve Rouiller caught the ball in the penalty area and VAR intervened, referee Lukas Fähndrich pointed to the point. Renat Dadashov didn’t need to be asked twice and scored with a good shot.
But the joy of the “Hoppers” lasted exactly 98 seconds after the restart. Then the ball was in the goal on the other side. Alexis Antunes had sent Bedia on his way and he hit the far corner (59th).
Servette jumps to 2nd place, GC stays sixth
In the last half hour, GC made an effort, but a Geneva player missed the best chance. In the 78th minute, substitute Anthony Baron failed to hit the crossbar. Moreira’s fingertips were still on the ball.
Thanks to the first Geneva championship success since October 20 (3:2 at GC), the Geiger team jumps back to second place at least until Sunday. GC, which has not been a complete success for over 300 days far from Letzigrund, remains in place 6.
Servette is already challenged again on Wednesday: The game of the 17th round, which has been postponed twice, is scheduled for the Schützenwiese in Winterthur. The Grasshoppers welcome FCZ to the Zurich Derby on February 19th.
