Russia and its Belarusian ally are no longer able to import processors recent suppliers from Taiwan, one of the largest suppliers of this type of component in the world.
Already targeted by sanctions from the European Union, the United Kingdom and the United States, Russia and Belarus are now in Taiwan’s sights.
Russia deprived of processors…
The Ministry of Economic Affairs has announced a list of products and components that can no longer be exported to these two countries, and semiconductors are largely affected by the measure.
Taiwanese companies are no longer allowed to make deliveries for the Russian and Belarusian markets of processors with a clock frequency higher than 25 MHz and offering performance of more than 5 Gigaflops.
CPUs also cannot incorporate an arithmetic and logic unit larger than 32 bits, have integrated circuits with more than 144 pins, have an interface allowing transfer speeds of more than 2.5 MB/s or offer a signal propagation speed of less than 0.4 nanoseconds.
Taiwan follows Western alliance
Suffice to say that any recent material is concerned by the sanction and the hardware which can be sold in Russia and at its ally is exceeded for a long time. For example, be aware that a PlayStation 2 is too well equipped to be shipped to countries sanctioned under these rules.
Taiwan is one of the world’s largest semiconductor suppliers and these sanctions are likely to increase pressure on the Russian and Belarusian tech sector. Moscow had already granted a reduction in standards for certain areas in order to combat the shortage of parts available and continue to produce despite the difficult conditions.
Intel, NVIDIA and AMD have already stopped exporting to Russia for months, so TMSC will join them. It should be noted that Taiwan, threatened by China, is an ally of the United States, no doubt explaining this decision to join Western countries and to set up such a system of sanctions against Russia.
