250 dogs and cats found in the apartment of a couple who threatens to blow it up

250 animals were found in an apartment in Nice, living in atrocious conditions. Local associations are overwhelmed.

It is a vision of horror that the firefighters did not expect to discover this Wednesday, July 12. In the morning, a little before 10 a.m., an alert is given in the city center of Nice (Alpes-Maritimes). Firefighters are first called for a flood, but actually discover a man who threatens to blow up his apartment, open gas. A security perimeter has been set up around the building in question, so that the authorities can enter the apartment. When they finally succeed, the surprise is total. If he finds the man, about fifty years old, as well as a woman about 70 years old, they also discover a lunar spectacle. Nearly 250 dogs and cats live here in deplorable conditions.

Nearly a dozen animals were already dead when help arrived, and the others were mostly in a state of malnutrition and advanced fatigue. Immediately, associations for the protection of animals were contacted, and it’s a real expedition which took place in the accommodation in the hours following the discovery. According to specialists, the animals were piled up in the apartment with the aim of being resold. The 50-year-old man is prosecuted for threat of explosion, while the woman is implicated for animal abuse.

Associations are overwhelmed

250 dogs and cats is more than places available in the shelters, and the associations found themselves completely overwhelmed. From the first hours of business, they have appealed to generosity and donations. “We make a call donations of food, litter, and financial donations, to pay for the care of veterinarians. If veterinarians want to participate, we are also takers. We are also looking host families” explains the Animal Instinct association for Nice Matin.

The situation is such that Henri-Jean Servat, an elected representative from Nice, has launched an appeal to allow the survival of his animals. Indeed, for associations, the observation is simple. “the shelters are full, it’s summer and the volunteers are on vacation, what do we do with sixty cats that need to be cared for and fed? They will be euthanized if a family cannot be found for them.” At least sixty cats could be bitten. To participate or adopt one of the animals, you can contact the associations that took care of them: ARPA, ASA06, Nothing but them, Monaco SPA, Animal Instinct, the Anteater Tribe.
