2500 euro counterfeit money – trial of “fifty false fifties”

Three Salzburg students had to answer to the regional court on Thursday for ordering false banknotes on the Darknet and using them in stores. One was also charged with defamation for incriminating his father when questioned. For the trio, it set community hours.

“So 200 euros for 50 fake fifties?” – With this question the juvenile judge summed up what the boys had ordered during their illegal shopping tour on the Darknet. They then used the notes to go shopping in various grocery stores and bakeries. “After the house search, I asked myself why I did it,” said one of the defendants. None of the three 14 to 16 year olds had any real reason for their behavior. The criminal proceedings clearly left an impression on the teenagers, all of whom had come with their parents and lawyers. Meek and contrite, they confessed, promised improvement. In addition to the allegations of counterfeit money, the first defendant was also charged with defamation. During the interrogation by the police, he said that he had received the seized 50 euro note from his father for Christmas. In the end, there was no verdict for the students, but a temporary suspension of the proceedings. As a condition for the diversion, they now have to do community hours. They were also instructed to apologize to the damaged businesses and to repair the damage. Legally binding!
