Incredible but true: The Spice Girls’ first hit, “Wannabe”, is celebrating its 25th birthday this week. The five band members celebrate the special milestone on social media.

Emma Bunton: “What a great 25 years it has been!”

“Zigazigahhhhhh !!!”, writes “Baby Spice” Emma Bunton (45) on Instagram for a video montage, which features excerpts from the song’s iconic music video and various performances. “Feeling very emotional, what a great 25 years it has been,” she adds. She also thanks the “wonderful fans” for “making the dreams of five girls come true”, “loved their songs”, “copied dance steps and recognized our individuality”. A little bit later the 45-year-old also shares a photo from the time of “Wannabe”.

Mel C (47, “Never Be The Same Again”) aka “Sporty Spice” and “Scary Spice” Mel B (46) both share the same anniversary cut as their bandmate. Mel C writes on Instagram: “25 years! Can you believe it ?!” With the help of the “great fans”, their debut single sent the Spice Girls on an “unbelievable journey”. The singer, who at times also enjoyed great success as a solo artist, ends her post with the hashtags “# Wannabe25” and “#iamaspicegirl”. 46-year-old Mel B is writingthat it was “a VERY emotional day”, “but we WILL be back”.

Geri Horner (48) posts three old snapshots for the special occasion on her Instagram account – including background information. The first photo was taken in her garden on the very day “Wannabe” was able to place third in the English charts. All five Spice Girls listened to the radio together at the time, “Ginger Spice” explains in their contribution. The second picture, a black and white photo, comes from the very first photo shoot of the legendary girl band, the third picture shows a “famous ring”. “I bought each of the girls a gold ring when we got together as a symbol of our friendship,” she explains. “It’s a special bond that continues to stand the test of time.”

Last but not least, the fifth musician in the group, “Posh Spice” Victoria Beckham (47), in her Instagram story to the release of the very first Spice Girls single a quarter of a century ago. “The song that changed everything,” she writes about one of the photos previously uploaded by Geri Horner. She also adds the hashtag “#IAmASpiceGirl” to her words.
