It was like a training session as the Lucerne team combined to make it 4-1 through Zurich’s back team. Ardon Jashari was able to serve Pascal Schürpf on the sideline, who found Pius Dorn in the middle unhindered. Dorn sent his opponent into the afterlife with a hook and finished with a solid shot to make it 4:1.

Dorn had already scored the 3-1 goal shortly after the break. With this goal, too, the Lucerne team had far too much freedom. After a quick counterattack, Schürpf received the ball completely free in the penalty area. The veteran unselfishly sent the ball into the middle, where Dorn and FCZ defender Fidan Aliti pushed the ball over the line together.

Lucerne better in all respects

Lucerne was already much more dangerous in the first half and deservedly took the lead.

  • 28 minutes: Yanick Brecher is able to parry Max Meyer’s first shot in the FCZ goal. But the ball comes right back into the danger zone. The midfielder receives the ball back from Severin Ottiger and shoots immediately. Becir Omeragic deflects the ball untenably.
  • 37 minutes: After Dejan Sorgic missed 2 top chances in the starting phase, the striker does better in this action. The 33-year-old fueled himself on the left edge of the penalty area and his powerful shot went behind Brecher to make it 2-0.

Zurich with a glimmer of hope

Shortly before the break, a spark of hope germinated for the 3,000 Zurich fans who had traveled with them. Ifeanyi Mathew nibbled at his opponent on the edge of the penalty area and flicked the ball like a dream into the top left corner of the goal. With the half-time whistle, however, the momentum was already lost again. In the second half, the guests only had the role of extras.

Thanks to the victory, Lucerne climbs to third place in the table. St. Gallen could recapture it tomorrow with a win.

Here’s how to proceed

Luzern has to trot to FC Basel next Sunday. Zurich also welcomes FC St. Gallen at home on Sunday.
