Spectacular turning point at Huntelaar and S04?
Because of the end of his career: Klaas-Jan Huntelaar announced the same almost four months ago – but still in the Ajax Amsterdam jersey. Now the attacker is playing for FC Schalke 04 and could possibly accompany the miners to the 2nd Bundesliga.

The 37-year-old spooled almost twelve kilometers in Leverkusen, a top figure for a striker, especially at Huntelaar’s age. A lack of fitness was by no means noticeable in the oldie. The new Schalke boss Peter Knäbel also liked the performance of the veteran: “It was damn good for the first 90 minutes”, the sports director told “Bild” and suggested: “We will not only be happy with him …” .
But also extend the contract with Huntelaar? According to information from “Bild”, this is not a completely absurd scenario. In the last few weeks the situation seemed clear: Huntelaar was on the Schalke cross-off list. With the outstanding Simon Terodde, the second division clipper was already traded at Berger Feld. Now, however, the U-turn could follow.
However, some open questions still need to be clarified beforehand. Huntelaar only appeared three times for Schalke due to protracted muscular problems. It is questionable whether the attacker could play a reasonably injury-free season in the second division. In addition, the striker has already decided to end his career with reference to his family.
Schalke would need good arguments to change his mind. In any case, financial incentives are not part of it, the miners are forced to take drastic austerity measures. Huntelaar would, however, be satisfied with an annual salary of less than one million euros, it is said.
