Nuremberg secures a chance for advancement

Darmstadt 98 missed the leap to the top of the table in the 2nd Bundesliga, the 2nd FC Nuremberg came a little closer to the relegation place. The guests in the Max Morlock Stadium put pressure on from the first minute, but in the end it was 3-1 for the “Club”.
Second division football club 1. FC Nürnberg has won three important points in the fight for promotion to the Bundesliga and reduced the gap to the relegation place to three points. In the top game on Saturday evening, the “Club” beat SV Darmstadt 98 3-1 (1-0).
Nikola Dovedan (43rd minute) and Lukas Schleimer (82nd) put Nuremberg, who are now one place behind fourth-placed Hesse in the table, in the lead. Luca Pfeiffer (58th) provided the equalizer in the meantime. An own goal by Andre Leipold (90+6) made the decision. The 30,417 spectators in the Max Morlock Stadium saw a fast-paced, intense floodlight game. The home side were lucky that Darmstadt’s Aaron Seydel put the ball just over the bar from a short distance in the second minute. The Franconians developed a goal threat for the first time through Christopher Schindler (25th), whose header hit the aluminum. Dovedan did a better job, heading in a perfectly fitting free kick from Johannes Geis.
The second round started quietly until FCN keeper Christian Mathenia involuntarily put the ball in front of Darmstadt’s feet with a hand defense. After a mess in the penalty area, the ball landed at Pfeiffer, who only had to push in. A lively exchange of blows then developed, in which Schleimer, who came in after a corner, and an own goal from Darmstadt’s Leipold ensured the FCN victory.
