The game between Stade-Lausanne-Ouchy and FC Winterthur went smoothly after the break. The hosts often had the ball, but hardly knew what to do with it. Until Mergim Qarri had plenty of space in the 58th minute and took a shot from around 20 meters. The dry long-range shot hit the goal unstoppable for goalie Marvin Keller to make it 1:2.
The tension returned to the Pontaise. But not necessarily the intensity that the game had in the first half. It was only in the last 10 minutes that SLO launched the final offensive – also because the guests retreated deep into their own half and concentrated almost exclusively on defending. However, coach Ricardo Dionisio’s team was unable to create a compelling scoring opportunity.
On the contrary: After a final corner in the 95th minute, FCW got the ball and quickly switched gears against the Vaudois who were throwing everything forward. Sayfallah Ltaief ran undisturbed into the penalty area on the right side and, after a hook, passed it across to Randy Schneider, who only had to push in. A few moments after the 3-1 the game was over. Thanks to the important win at the bottom, Winterthur jumps to 6th place, at least until Sunday.
Turbulent first half
The game experienced its first excitement after about 10 minutes. FCW defender Remo Arnold hit Gabriel Kyeremateng on the foot in the penalty area, and referee Urs Schnyder immediately awarded a penalty. It was the starting point of 6 groundbreaking minutes in this encounter:
- 12th minute: The fouled Kyeremateng immediately steps in from the spot. But with his low shot into the right corner, he fails because of goalie Marvin Keller.
- 13th minute: Almost immediately after the penalty is saved, the ball is in the SLO goal. Luca Zuffi heads a cross from Souleymane Diaby and scores his first Super League goal since returning to the Eulach city.
- 18th minute: Schneider plays Adrian Gantenbein in the penalty area, which is worth seeing. This passes to Burkart in the middle, who just has to push in – 2-0.
Winterthur still had opportunities to extend their lead. Gantenbein only hit the outside post in a 2-on-1 situation in the 40th minute. The guests went into the break with a 2-0 lead, which they didn’t relinquish even after the break.
This is how it continues
The Super League teams are already back in action during the week. Winterthur welcomes FC Basel on Tuesday evening, Stade-Lausanne-Ouchy plays against Lucerne in front of their home crowd on Thursday.
