3 films to see urgently as theaters reopen

Wednesday, May 19, 2021 marked a turning point in the life of the French. The terraces are reopening but, above all, we are finally going to watch films on the big screen, in a movie theater. But what are the feature films to watch right now? Our selection.

Wednesday May 19, 2021 was a day of joy and reunion for many French people The cinemas have finally reopened and, to everyone’s surprise, we were finally able to go there on D-Day. On social networks have been published many photos showing endless queues in the morning in front of dark rooms. The UGC les Halles in Paris, for example, broke a historic record at 9:30 am, with its 1069 spectators. In total, in France, the reopening of theaters counted more than 200,000 spectateur.ice.s.

Richard Patry, president of the National Federation of French Cinemas, did not hide his enthusiasm from our colleagues from Parisian. “It was a crazy day! The reopening couldn’t be better, did he declare. (…) It’s a little below the average for a Wednesday in May 2019, but knowing that there is a 35% gauge and one or two screenings less for each film because of the curfew, we are very, very happy. ”

Indeed, it is a nice surprise when we know that the reopening of French cinemas in June 2020 after the first confinement had not gathered many spectators. The numbers were even so low that they became alarming. One year after the start of the pandemic, this reopening of cultural venues finally shows the need of the French to reconnect with dark rooms. It remains to be seen what to see in the cinema. In order to find your way there, and to take a little break from your binge watching on Netflix, we recommend three films to go to the cinema.

“Farewell the idiots”, by Albert Dupontel: the film with the 7 Césars

After winning prizes at the César 2021 ceremony, Goodbye idiots, directed by Albert Dupontel, is back in the cinema and for our greatest pleasure. This film, favorite of the aufeminin editorial staff, tells the story of Suze Trappet, played by Virginie Efira. At 43, she learns that she is seriously ill and that her days are numbered. She then decides to go in search of the child she had to abandon at the age of 15. She crosses paths with JB, a fifty-something burnout who tried to end his life. An agreement is then put in place: JB must help Suze find the child she lost. In return, she will help him get rid of a delicate situation.

“Rag boy”, by Nicolas Maury: disenchanted actor

We love Nicolas Maury, the interpreter of Hervé in the cult series of France 2, Ten percent, now available on Netflix. At 40, he is not only an actor and proves it with Chiffo boyn, where it is placed in front of but also behind the camera. The film tells the story of Jérémie, a thirty-something actor who is struggling to get his career off the ground. In addition to that, his couple is struggling … He then decides to leave Paris and go to Limousin, his homeland, where he will try to find comfort with his mother. A sensitive jewel not to be missed under any circumstances.

“Falling”, by Viggo Mortensen: on edge

The star of the franchise The Lord of the Rings, Viggo Mortensen, also goes behind the camera for a first feature film entitled Falling. In this film, the actor and now director tells the story of John, as a couple and the happy father of an adopted daughter. Until he finds himself in the obligation to take care of his father, because the latter gradually sinks into dementia. At aufeminin, this film is also one of our favorites. Viggo Mortenson does not sign an autobiographical work but has indeed drawn on his own experience to develop this very touching film.
