“3000 hours of rushes”: the most ambitious film on the life of Jesus is coming soon!

The Way of the Wind, Terrence Malick’s next feature film, should soon land and bring a unique vision of the life of Christ to the cinema.

Four years after his last film, A Hidden Life, Terrence Malick should return very soon with an ambitious fresco on Jesus Christ: The Way of the Wind. Filming is over after the postponements linked in particular to the Covid pandemic. True to his reputation as a perfectionist, the 79-year-old filmmaker spends a lot of time in the editing room.

“The film is in the post-production process right now. We have an incredible cast. It’s another Terrence Malick project, which was filmed this time in several different countries. From a production point of view, it’s It’s a pretty fantastic achievement. Terry is very happy with the result so far but there are no announcements yet.”said producer Alex Boden at the microphone of Variety.

The Way of the Wind will offer us several episodes of the life of Jesus, carried by a cast of choice. Géza Röhrig (The Son of Saul) embodies the Messiah. Matthias Schoenaerts plays the Apostle Peter and Aidan Turner plays André. For his part, Mark Rylance plays Satan in several versions, as he told us in Deauville in September 2019. Joseph Fiennes, Ben Kingsley and Mathieu Kassovitz complete the cast of the film.

The French actor also mentioned his participation in Terrence Malick’s feature film on RFM, at the microphone of Bernard Montiel. Kassovitz slips into John’s suit, “the brother of Jesus”.

“There is a scene where I yell at Jesus; I tell him that he must stop smoking joints and go help his mother to bring back the cattle”he said.

If the director takes so long to edit his film, it is because of the number of hours of rushes he has. Indeed, Terrence Malick shot 5 hours of images a day when a normal film only films 30 minutes maximum, explained Mathieu Kassovitz.

“It must have had 3000 hours of rushes! The film can last 17 hours”jokes the French actor and director. “It’s one of his most important films because Malick is very religious. Maybe I’ll be cut during the editing, but the experience was magnificent”he concluded.

In any case, if the figure of 3000 hours seems surreal and given at random by Kassovitz, it remains no less plausible given the Malick method, that of letting the camera roll to capture the slightest grain of truth.

The Way of the Wind does not yet have a set release date but it should be soon.
