300,000 candidates at the end of registration for volunteering

The Organizing Committee for the Paris Olympic Games (COJO) has recorded “more than 300,000 applications” for volunteer assignments when the registration period opened six weeks ago, he announced on Thursday (May 4).

The committee welcomed this “strong enthusiasm around its program” ; a third of the candidates are under 25, according to its press release, and 55% are women. In total, it needs 45,000 volunteers, 30,000 for the Olympic Games (July 26-August 11) and 15,000 for the Paralympic Games (August 28-September 8). Some “were already volunteers at the Albertville Olympics and want to get involved again”also informed the OCOG.

“specific need”

“More than 3,000 candidates declared a specific need due to a disability, an unprecedented level for a volunteer program in France, and in line with the objective shared by Paris 2024 and the State”, also notes the OCOG. And one out of two candidates wants to take part in both the Olympic Games and the Paralympic Games.

At the last tally, last week, the COJO had identified more than 200,000 applicants. He will now proceed with the selection of the candidates, some “will be offered interviews or additional tests, in particular when the desired assignments require specific skills (linguistics, knowledge of a sporting discipline, etc.)”, he said. Candidates will be selected by the end of 2023.
